Family therapy

Family therapy is based on the therapist’s respect and trust for the family as a whole, as well as for each individual family member separately. In a family, in a system, each member interacts with and has influence on all the other members of the system. Therefore, when a family comes for therapy, the initial request that may only concern one family member, is always explored within the whole system. A symptom that a child may experience is being viewed within the family system. The Systemic Existential Approach believes in the strength of human relationships, so the potential of each family is highlighted during therapy. A family may have one or several malfunctions, but it is not the malfunction. The goal of family therapy is not to blame the parents for a child’s symptom, but to find a way for all family members to benefit from the therapeutic process.
